AMBER WIND Gala koncertas: Latvian Radio Big Band

On the last Saturday of the summer, August 28, International Wind Music Festival „Amber Wind“ invites you to an exclusive event - the Gala Concert at the Palanga Concert Hall, where the Latvian Radio Big Band will perform for the very first time.

The band brings to Palanga a special program „Feel the Groove“, prepared especially for the Latvian Radio Big Band by composer and drummer Andris Buikis and vocalist Aija Vitoliņa.

Each composer has his own handwriting - for Andris it is definitely rhythmic and groovy melodies, which are supposedly tied to a certain period of music (often 1980s), but do not express nostalgia.

The program will also feature music by the legendary American jazz pianist, one of the jazz-rock and Jazz Fusion pioneers Chick Corea. Chick Corea is considered one of the most recognized jazz pianists and has won 23 Grammy Awards.

The project is very rich and harmonious, experimental and technically challenging, especially for the big band, but we can also hear the values of classical jazz and rhythmic music.

The Latvian Big Band was first founded in 1966 and after its revival in 2012 the big band has performed with such renown artists as James Morrison, Seamus Blake, Randy Brecker, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Marius Neset, Allan Harris, Jojo Mayer, Kurt Elling, Richard Bona, Michael Pipoquinha, China Moses, Ruthie Foster, Diane Schuur and many others.  The big band has been nominated twice for the Grand Music Award - the highest form of state recognition in the field of music in Latvia.  Each of the Latvian Radio Big Band performances is an exciting energy exchange between the musicians and the audience.
