If I would have to give one advice to an aspiring Urban designer or planner, I would tell him or her to please learn how to embrace bad ideas and burry the good ones. In fact throughout my career there has never been a project that has been implemented the way it was intended. A myriad of stakeholders, city officials and business representatives are the ones who shape the cities for better or for worse. After almost 20 years in the field I would like to share some of my most spectacular failures and saddest of the successes.
About Martynas Marozas
Urban planner, city development processes moderator. Specialises in complex spatial transformation strategies for existing cities. He holds a Master's degree in Urban Planning from Delft University of Technology. While living in Amsterdam, Rotterdam he contributed or led the development of a wide range of planning, residential transformation, infrastructure and public space projects in the Netherlands and many other countries around the world. He is currently the director of mmap., an urban planning company specialising in complex spatial planning and development projects and strategies. Martynas is an associate professor at the Kaunas University of Technology and a lecturer at Vilnius University. In Vilnius, he led the Neris embankment renewal project, coordinated the preparation of the Comprehensive Plan of the Republic of Lithuania, and advised municipalities and state institutions on territorial, infrastructure, strategic planning and sustainable development issues.
