Key Facts About the New Dubai Metro
This brand-new map of Dubai’s new metro system was released today at a press conference by RTA. With an additional ten stations being added to existing lines and one brand-new line planned, it is clear that they are really trying to push public transportation in Dubai. Although construction hasn’t started yet on most of these stations (although foundations have been completed for them), it is expected that all 12 stations will be complete by 2022. The two lines should be ready for passengers by 2019.
How Much Will Fares Cost?
All metro stations will be free of charge during a brief introductory period after launch. Fare cards can be purchased for 8 dirhams (about $2). After that, single journeys will cost 1 dirham or 20 fils (about 4 cents). A monthly pass will cost 40 dirhams (about $10) with unlimited use for 30 days once activated. Special family plans are also available. Travelling outside of rush hour may not incur any additional charges.

The Red Line is set to expand from Jebel Ali Village to Abu Dhabi by 2021. The Green Line will go from Al Qusais to Al Jaddaf by 2021, and so on.
