Shees Park Sharjah: A Hidden Oasis in the Desert

Shees Park, just outside of Sharjah, UAE, is a place of serenity in the heart of the desert. At first glance it may seem like nothing special, but this neighborhood park is one of the city’s best-kept secrets and deserves to be shared with everyone. The park is spread out across 24 acres (9 hectares) and includes trees, flowers, grass and even an art gallery and amphitheater.

5 Reasons Why You Should Visit

I believe it’s safe to say that Shees Park is one of my favorite places to visit. Here are five reasons why I think you should pay a visit when you get a chance

Getting There

Getting to Shees Park Sharjah is a bit difficult. It’s located west of Sharjah, about half way between Dubai and Abu Dhabi on Sheikh Zayed Road. It’s important to be aware that you will drive through a large desert area with only one gas station along your journey—so fill up before heading out there!

What to Do

Shees Park is one of my favorite places to run in all of Dubai. The park is beautiful, clean and there are various well-kept walking trails that offer a variety of scenery as you run. There’s also tons of parking so you don’t have to worry about getting back late at night after your run. The best time to visit Shees park is during early morning hours, as it gets very crowded later in the day with families who come to spend time together on weekends.

Where to Eat

Before you even make it to Shees, stop by Five Guys on Hamdan Bin Mohammed Street—it’s a fantastic burger place, and if you arrive there before noon, your fries will be hot. Afterward, hop over to Shees Park and walk around until your eyes can’t take any more beauty. Find a quiet corner where no one else is sitting; if you get there early enough on a weekend morning, that shouldn’t be hard.

Where to Stay

Green View Hotel and Resort. This is a brand new hotel that was built by Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah. The hotel also has a great restaurant, which includes an international buffet as well as some local favorites. When you stay here, be sure to take advantage of all of Shees park has to offer!

Best Time To Visit

Spring and Summer months are pleasant times to visit Shees. The park is open from 6am – 10pm, however you’ll want to arrive as early as possible to beat any crowds. If you’re planning on spending a while, especially if it’s summertime or you plan on swimming, it may be worth bringing along a picnic lunch or at least snacks. Food trucks are also available with a limited range of selection of hot dogs, hamburgers and fries.
